Welcome to the Personal Page of
On March 21, 2019, I will sleep-out in solidarity with homeless youth and youth at risk of becoming homeless in Vermont. This is my 4th time sleeping-out for this great cause.
Two years ago, in particular, was such an eye-opening experience for me: It was roughly 19 degrees and windy. Snow and ice covered the ground that we were "sleeping" on. There was a tarp on the ground, to lay our sleeping bags on; but, it was not waterproof (which I did not discover until it was too late). I had warm gloves and boots; a warm sleeping bag and extra layers of clothes on. But, little did I know, that all of that would not be enough to protect me from the cold and damp conditions of the night. Around 2am, as I lay in my sleeping bag, my body heat began to melt the snow and ice. The ice-cold water seeped into my sleeping bag and onto my clothes; and, I was completely soaked before I realized what was happening! Needless to say, I was miserable for the entire rest of the night!! But, this brought so much perspective to me: I had the means to obtain all of the supplies that I needed; yet, was still vastly ill prepared for this particular experience. Imagine being an at-risk youth; with no means to prepare for being without shelter. My spirits were not broken; because (through chattering teeth) I told myself: "it's only for a few more hours...you can do this". But, what if there was no immediate end in sight? This, among other reasons, is why I participate in this humbling event!
Last year, it rained all night and it was a struggle to keep my sleeping space dry. But, again it is such a humbling experience. You go all night without sleep and the expectation is that you go to work and carry out your business, regardless of how tired you are.
Please consider donating to this important charity and sponsor me as I sleep-out for Spectrum!
Everyone, especially our youth, should have a safe and warm place to go; when "home" is not an option. This particular charity has a special place in my heart, for so many reasons.
With your help, we are making sure that every teenager and young adult in our community has a place to go when they need help most.
Please help me reach my goal of $2,000.00!
